Why give? What is tithing?

When you tithe, you’re making the choice to trust God with your finances.

What is Tithing? Tithing is the biblical principle of giving 10% of our income back to God through the church because we recognizing that God has given us everything. We’ve seen God provide abundantly in our church, and we know He will provide abundantly for you and your family when you put Him first in your finances. In fact, it’s the one area in the Bible where God tells you to test Him. God says:

“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not drop their fruit before it is ripe,” says the Lord Almighty.” - MALACHI 3:10-11

In our local communities, St. Paul's Ocean Grove Churhc has a direct impact on people’s lives, people you might know! Whether it’s offering hope through worship and classes; educating our children; feeding people in need; helping people with bills in hard times; transforming the schools by direct involvement; offering a place of safety and recovery; and much more. Right here in Ocean Grove.

Also, together in partnership with other United Methodist Churches, we care for survivors recovering from earthquakes and storms; we invest, long term, in vulnerable communities; we implement the most effective solutions to diseases like malaria; we equip the next generation to lead the church and society. In all of this, we share the good news of Jesus Christ.

“Legacy giving” can help you provide for your church and local community through your estate. This can help avoid probate while minimizing taxes and support causes close to your heart. More importantly, it provides a biblical understanding of stewardship and how biblical principles can influence your estate-planning decisions.

You can find creative ways to make contributions to St. Paul's Ocean Grove Church’s ministries through non-cash gifts. Here are a few options to consider: Stocks and mutual funds, life insurance, retirement assets, bequests, real estate, cryptocurrency, and charitable gift fund donations.
